An event to raise scholarship funds for future Howard University students. Catherine Hughes, CEO of Urban will be the Keynote Speaker. Recipient of the Humanitarian Award is Dr. Lisa Merritt. Recipient of the President's Award is the Hon. Kionne McGhee, FL House of Representatives Minority Leader.

About the Event


Catherine Hughes is an entrepreneur, radio and television personality and business executive. Hughes founded the media company Radio One (now known as Urban One), and when the company went public in 1999, she became the first African-American woman to head a publicly traded corporation. In the 1970s, Hughes created the urban radio format called "The Quiet Storm" on Howard University's radio station WHUR.


Dr. Lisa Merritt is Executive Director of the Multicultural Health Institute in Newtown, which addresses racial and ethnic health inequities. She has been recognized by multiple organizations locally and nationally for outstanding commitment and service in the development of community programs, and health policy related to multicultural health issues. 


Hon. Kionne L. McGhee is the Democratic Minority Leader of the Florida House of Representatives, representing the 117th District, which includes central Miami-Dade County, stretching from Richmond Heights to Florida City.

There will also be an Art Collectors Showcase where art pieces will be available for purchase.
